The Cuban delegates, from University of Camaguey presented their problems related to climate change in Cuba such as flooding, the design of the infrastructures (e.g. bridges) were not designed to withstand climate change (extreme flooding or drought) as they did not expect that the climatic condition would be extremely different 15-20 years ago when they designed the bridges. This resulted to economic loses as the bridges that they construct were destroyed by the heavy flooding. The Cuban delegates wanted to obtain hydrological models that would predict the climate condition 50 years from now so they can better design their infrastructures in order to withstand climate change.
They also had a meeting of possible cooperation between Ghent University and the University of Camaguey such as monitoring of their bay and river systems and improvement of their existing master’s programme curriculum. UGent presented to the Cuban delegates their existing and future research interests/activities.
